Wrinkles: Tips for Black and Brown Skin

Good news, dear OYAs: because you have dark or olive skin, your skin will show fewer signs of ageing. But when should you start worrying about wrinkles, and what can you do to keep your skin looking young longer?

It's a fact: dark and olive skin offers better protection from the sun and as a result show fewer signs of ageing caused by sun damage. The dermis, comprised of collagen and elastic fibres, keeps dark and olive skin firmer and more compact that other skin tones. Additionally, melanocytes (skin cells that synthesize melanin) in dark and olive skin are more active and produce darker melanin which is more effective in protecting skin from the sun, and as a result, wrinkles.

Before age 50, people of colour will show fewer signs of skin ageing. But sooner or later, wrinkles will begin to appear on the forehead, eyes (aka crow's feet), cheeks, or the nasolabial area (from the nose to the lips). Because the area around the eyes is extremely sensitive and is generally where wrinkles first begin to form. Good moisturising will help slow the appearance of wrinkles, especially if you have dry to very dry skin : MEL'OYA® My Corrector Unifying Moisturising will be your best ally in combating wrinkles due to dry skin.

ADVICE :

1. Prevention, prevention, prevention ! You should make sure to stay hydrated from the inside (by drinking a lot of water) out (by using a facial cream). And don't forget to exfoliate with a product, such as CLEAN'OYA® EXTRA My Gel Cleanser Exfoliating, which exfoliates skin to activate cell renewal.

2. Remove your make-up : You should never skip your daily skincare routine as it's essential to remove impurities from skin and let it breathe. Choose a gentle, hydrating texture such as CLEAN'OYA® My Cleansing Micellar Water, or a seboregulating formula such as CLEAN'OYA® My Foam Purifying Cleansing.

3. When wrinkles have reached a more advanced stage, the first anti-ageing product you should use is an eye cream. Never use an anti-ageing product for the face on the area around your eyes: skin is much thinner in this area and the product will not be suitable for this sensitive area (risk of swelling).

When applying an anti-ageing product, be gentile and massage the face using small, circular motions without pulling the skin to encourage skin to absorb the product.

TIP :

Do facial exercises, a natural, easy and safe method: a few stretches every day in front of the mirror can sculpt the face and slow skin ageing. Moreover, despite dark skin's natural protection from the sun, you should avoid overexposure to sunlight.
